So I have a rather patchy (non-existent) family history before my Dads great grandmother (maternal line). The reason for this is my dads grandmother came to the UK some time around the turn of the 20th century. We know, through oral family history, that she was Jewish and came into the UK from France – we don’t know if she resided there or just crossed from there (some things have got lost over the generations!), but what we do know is that she was coming to escape some form of persecution/antisemitism and on arrival in the uk hid her Jewish identity. As a result no one else was raised Jewish even though this bit of identity was known about.
So on the basis of the maternal line… could my father technically be Jewish?
