Could a Jew become a cyborg?

By cyborg I mean someone that applies technology to their body in order to change or enhance their physical abilities or senses. I don’t know much about Jewish law, but I read somewhere that it’s a sin to purposefully cut yourself, and that’s why tattoos are taboo. Does this rule apply to things like implants, or bionic limbs that are detachable? Where is the line drawn?
