Can I wear the Star of David?

I am ethnically Jewish, and I take extreme pride in such. I love my family history more than anything. However, I am not practicing. My mother decided not to raise me religious, and rather to have me make a decision like that once I was older. I am nearly 18, and I’m beginning to consider converting to Judaism. Would it be wrong for me to wear a necklace with the Star of David on it? I fear it’d be seen as offensive, and I have the upmost respect for the Jewish faith. Please give me your opinions! Thank you!
