Hi folks,
As we’re approach the Days of Awe, I’ve been mulling over a question about my Hebrew name and what it means to me.
[Quick content warning – briefly mentions attempted murder.]
Backstory: My biological parents had a turbulent life, so they haven’t been around for a long, long time. In fact, when I was about 4 years old, my bio mom put my siblings and me in a car and tried to drive us off a cliff (yikes!). We were saved at the last minute, though, and none of us were injured. After that, I was fortunate enough to be largely raised by my paternal grandparents.
My Hebrew name is יִצְחָק (Yitzhak). I think it’s a fitting name, given the circumstances, haha. The story of the binding is something I was mulling over when blowing the shofar this morning.
It struck me, though, that I never learned my biological parents’ Hebrew names. My grandparents don’t remember them. Where would I look for something like that? Or, on the other hand, is that even something I should look into?
Thanks for everyone’s consideration!
