Besides humbleness, why do Rabbis wear black?

I know many religious people of all faiths wear simple black or brown ropes to be humble and not draw attention to themselves with beautiful colors or gems or anything “vain,” but these things often have more than one level of meaning. What does black symbolize beyond that? For instance I read that the crown of G-d is white and pure, or white and gold, etc etc. Why not wear all white? In mysticism they sometimes talk about enlightenment, shining like a sun. Why not wear a bright color to represent the sun and light? Bright white, bright yellow, bright sun red, etc?

Just trying to understand, please forgive my ignorance on this and many other subjects.
