At what stage can a person (BT) correctly call themselves a Chassid?

I’m curious about the tipping point at which one “becomes” a Chassid.

If someone is a BT and in studying becomes interested in Chassidism, then studies more and strongly identifies with the teachings of a particular Rebbe, etc etc – at what point are they technically a Chassid?

For example, is it according to time?

To level of knowledge?

To how shomer mitzvot / Shabbos they are?

I am very interested in any perspectives on this!

Thank you
