Assignment about religions – inquiry about fasting customs in Judaism

For context, I am currently writing a research based assignment on the commonalities and differrences between the Abrahamic faiths, specifically Islam and Judaism.

One of the sub sections is based upon fasting, and I have been tirelessly trying to find sources that give me information about what fasts are compulsory upon every practicing Jew, and which ones aren’t. Can somebody please provide some information, along with sources from the Tanakh or other scriptures of the Orthodox sect?
