Any Jewish fishermen or fisherwomen here? I want to take up the hobby, and am curious if your Judaism ever enters into your fishing?
Do you have a certain blessing you like to read before you fish to get yourself in the mindset? Are there kosher or ethical considerations you take into account when deciding how to kill the fish or whether to let it go? Do you find that fishing brings you closer to God, or helps your Judaism in other ways?
Since there are a lot of Jews around Long Island, any pointers that pertain to the area would be appreciated! (I don’t know what species to fish for or what gear to get for the North Shore lol)
