Ancient Palestine?

I’ve seen quite often historical texts refer to the region in ancient times as ancient palestine, some even say now modern Israel. How does this make any sense?

Surely it would be ancient Israel as palestine didn’t come around until after the Romans renamed it because of the Bar Kochba revolt if thats right?

And even then modern palestine didn’t start to form until the caliphates invaded and the region arabised.

At the very least call it ancient Canaan or something
