A word about Menorahs

Hello, I was decided to learn a bit about Judaism while procrastinating, and one of the things that I noticed were the menorahs. You see, I come from a muslim/agnostic country, so its next to impossible to see a menorah outside of Synagogues. But I quickly noticed that while most of them have 7 lambs on top, a large minority has 9 or even 8. After a little bit of digging, I came across this:

Make seven lamps for the menorah, and mount them so as to give light to the space in front of it.” (verses 31-37, Complete Jewish Bible)

So. Are only the 7 lambed menorah relevant to Judaism and the rest are just normal fancy lambs? Or do they get mentioned again on another verse? What am I missing here?

TLDR: Why do some menorahs have more than 7 lamps?
