A question about the word "Shyster"

Is the word Schyster considered Anti-Semitic? I heard someone at work use it today and I always thought it was a derogatory word referring to those of jewish faith. I’ve been looking online to see if I could find any etymology on it but can’t get a clear answer.

I see a lot of people say that it isn’t and attribute it to old articles talking about lawyers. I just don’t know if those people are just trying to find an excuse to continue to use the word and not feel bad. They could be right though.

Words change and evolve over time so I’m just wondering if it started out as short hand for an unscrupulous lawyer but became something else. Even still I don’t think I’d ever use the word because some people may be like me and think it is offensive. I guess that is just how language works though, words mean what we say they mean as a collective.
