Years ago, I was given a Magen David after my closest friend’s mother passed. I knew it had been hers from her husband and then back to his father. I started wearing it a few months ago on the anniversary of her passing. I only found out last week that my friend’s grandfather had it through the Holocaust. Everyone in the family wants me to have it, but now I’m so nervous about having it on me because it has even more significance than a family hierloom, but they are also so happy that I’m wearing it (today I prayed at the Western Wall while wearing it; I started practicing recently with the guidance of a rabbi).
